Colonel John AtkinsonDirector, Fires and Maneuver Integration Division
U.S. Marine Corps
Colonel Atkinson is a native of Cohasset,Massachusetts. He is an Assault Amphibian Officer and has commanded at the Platoon, Company and Battalion Level. Colonel Atkinson was recently selected and slated for Colonel Command.
Colonel Atkinson served in several staff assignments to include as an Aide de Camp, a Battalion Executive Officer, and a Division Plans Officer. He has a previous assignment as a planner at Headquarters U.S. Marine Corps, and most recently served as the Chief Global Force Management & Chief of Current Operations, U.S. European Command.
Colonel Atkinson has multiple operational deployments with different Special Marine Air Ground Task Force and Marine Expeditionary Units. These deployments included supporting various Non-Combatant Evacuation, Security Cooperation, Humanitarian & Disaster Relief and NATO operations. Colonel Atkinson also has several combat deployments.
Colonel is a graduate of Boston College and a Distinguished Graduate of the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the United States Naval War College. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, a Master’s Degree (with Distinction)in Military Studies and a Master’s Degree (with Distinction) in National Security Strategy and Policy.
Colonel Atkinson is currently the Director, Fires and Maneuver Integration Division (FMID) & Capability Portfolio Manager (CPM) Joint Capability Area (JCA) 3 Force Application, HQ U.S. Marine Corps.
